This week Jimmy talks with Georgia teacher Brian Wittenberg. He talks about musical theatre, the teachers who shaped him, and working as a professional actor and director while teaching.
Teacher
Brian Wittenberg (he/him) is originally from Johns Creek and is an alumnus of Chattahoochee High School and the Musical Theatre program. He was a part of the chorus and drama programs and first ever Musical Theatre class during his time a Chattahoochee, so he is thrilled to return as the theatre director for the school. Brian graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a BFA in Musical Theatre and has since worked professionally as both a performer and director across the country. As an artist, he is fiercely dedicated to leaning into hope so that we as a community can make tangible changes to the world through the power of storytelling. As an educator, Brian creates environments where students are able to express themselves and develop repeatable and safe processes to tell stories and develop characters. Previous acting credits include Next to Normal (Henry), The Secret Garden, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (William Barfee), Mamma Mia!, Working, Hairspray (Wilbur Turnblad), A Little Night Music (Henrik Egerman), The Jungle Book, and You Can’t Take It With You (Mr. DePinna). Brian has also worked as a director on productions like August: Osage County, The Maids, and Natural Shocks.
