This week Jimmy talks with North Carolina theatre teacher Jenn Janus. She talks about coming into teaching later in life, her career in special effects makeup, and owning and operating her own haunted attraction!
Teacher/ Mom/ Owner/Operator
Jenn Janus is a high school Theatre teacher at Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC. She began her teaching career after being away from formal theatre training for almost twenty years. After college, Jenn pursued a career as a professional makeup artist traveling and teaching beauty makeup. On the side, she worked with local community theatre and did some film work as a special effects makeup artist. In 2007, she became a full-time stay-at-home mom and worked at a local haunted attraction during the Halloween season to keep up with her passion. After working in the industry for 5 years, Jenn and her husband Scott opened their own volunteer haunted attraction, that serves as an outreach program for local youth. In 2017 a Theatre teaching position opened at the local high school where many of the volunteers attended high school. Since being hired, Jenn has built the program up to a full-time position and a strong community where students thrive.
